Founded in 2018, Southwood Properties is a full-service real estate investment, development and management firm with a primary focus on multi-family and mixed-used assets. Having built a portfolio of 2,000 units with their prior firm, the Southwood team has broad experience in developing and managing units in the Philadelphia market. Adept at structuring both Historic Tax Credits and Opportunity Zone benefits, Southwood seeks to create value through adaptive reuse development projects with the goal of generating strong after tax returns for investors. 

Douglas Jordan

Founder and Managing Partner

Doug is the Founder and Managing Partner of Southwood Properties, a firm dedicated to the development and management of multi-family housing in Philadelphia, with a primary focus on the adaptive re-use of existing structures.  Prior to founding Southwood, Doug served as Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Alterra Property Group, a real estate investment, development and management company.  From 2012-2018, Alterra Property Group executed on more than $900M of real estate transactions and developed and managed just under 2,000 apartments.  Doug actively oversaw the development of a third of those projects while also serving as the head of operations.   

Prior to forming Alterra in 2012, Doug spent four years focused on single-family renovations and adaptive re-use projects across Philadelphia’s neighborhoods.  Doug also spent three years as an Equity Research Analyst at Greenville Capital Management.  Before attending business school, he served as a Legislative Aide to U.S. Senator James Jeffords and as an Analyst for Pedestal, Inc., an internet based electronic mortgage trading platform.  He has an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from the University of Vermont. 

Doug is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Shipley School and past President of the Alumni Board.  He is currently both a Board Member and Member of the Finance Committee of the Claneil Foundation.  He lives in Center City with his wife and two children.
